This episod is dedicated to an important event, August 2, the International Holocaust Memorial Day for Sinti and Roma.

This day can also be heard under the name "Kali traš", which in translation from the Romani language means "black horror".

Why was this particular day, August 2, chosen to honor the victims of the Roma Holocaust?
And the whole thing is a tragic event that took place on the night of August 2 to 3, 1944 in the Nazi death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. Then the so-called Zigeunerlager ("Gypsy camp"), that is, the camp in which the Sinti and Roma were located, was liquidated. About 3,000 Sinti and Roma lost their lives in the gas chambers in just one night. They were men and women, children and the elderly.

In total, historians estimate that about 500,000 Sinti and Roma were killed in Nazi-occupied Europe. Many others were imprisoned in concentration camps, forced to perform forced labor, subjected to forced sterilization and medical experiments. According to historians, in just one Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp, about 20 thousand Sinti and Roma died or were killed in gas chambers at the hands of the Nazis.

August 2, the International Holocaust Memorial Day for Sinti and Roma is not just a day of commemoration. And this is also a reminder to the modern generation about the high value and dignity of human life.
