Навіть важко собі уявити життя без абетки. Це основа основ. Недарма існує вираз “починати з самих азів”, який коренями сягає ще часів старослов'янської абетки, де першою буквою алфавіту була саме “аз”. Початок справи асоціювали з першою літерою, яка є основою мови.
Важливість абетки навряд чи комусь потрібно доводити, це як аксіома. Проте щодо існування та розвитку ромської абетки дискусії не вщухають.
Одне з доволі спірних питань виникає з самого вибору системи письма, тобто набору символів з яких складати ромську абетку. Кирилиця чи латиниця? А може деванагарі?
